The Supreme Court, while hearing a petition by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, said on Monday that “if you stoop public debate to this level, then there will be reason for your decision.” The challenge was to dismiss the plea of ​​a person seeking quashing of a criminal defamation case filed against him by the perpetrator of the forgery, Vishwa Sharma. The defamation case was filed by the deputy commissioner of Delhi over allegations of bribery by Sharma.

Expressing reluctance of the top court to accept Sisodia’s plea against the high court’s November 4 order, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader withdrew it. Advocate Nalin Kohli, representing the Assam government, said after the hearing, “Essentially, while issuing summons, a court would consider whether a prima facie case of defamation is made out in the possession of Lipsa.”

The high court had taken cognizance of a complaint filed by Sharma, alleging that in June this year, Sisodia, at a press conference in New Delhi on June 4, accused the Assamese responsible of being involved in corruption, alleging that A defamatory statement was made against him. The court took the name of Sharma’s complaint about Sisodia, in which he (Sharma) was accused of bribing his wife to get a government contract to buy PPE kits. It was alleged that such PPE kits were given to others for Rs 600 per unit, while the same was demanded from a company owned by Sharma’s wife Haq at the rate of Rs 900 per kit.
