Delhi government launches free bus passes for construction workers

The Delhi government on Wednesday launched a ‘free bus travel pass’ scheme for construction workers to help them cut expenses on work-related travel.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “With the free travel pass, our construction workers will be able to earn their hard earned money, time and live a comfortable life.” He said only some construction workers find accommodation near their work site while many others have to travel from the site or the outskirts of the city.

“To end the travel related problems of construction workers, the Arvind Kejriwal government has launched a free bus travel pass scheme for them. Now they will get free passes and rides to work in DTC buses across the city,” the minister said.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, ‘Manish Sisodia ji, give free bus passes to laborers but add buses to the DTC fleet.

“During the last seven years, the Kejriwal government has neither added any new buses nor done anything to improve public transport, but to create political votebanks for the society to force people to travel in dangerous buses. Played the game of free bus tickets for different classes,” said Mr. Kapoor alleged.

He said that in the last one month itself, seven DTC buses were burnt on the roads. Thankfully there was no news of any loss of life or property. However, such incidents can prove fatal in future.

Mr Sisodia said that construction workers can register for free passes on the DTC website or at any of the 34 registration booths set up by the Construction Workers Welfare Board. He said passes would be issued to them immediately after registration.
