New Delhi: Official sources said the Delhi government on Wednesday decided to reduce VAT on petrol, bringing down the fuel price in the city by about Rs 8 per litre.

In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, it was decided that the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol will be reduced to 19.4 per cent from the current 30 per cent, thereby resulting in a reduction of around Rs 8 per litre. He added.

Sources said that after the VAT cut, the price of petrol will come down to Rs 95 per liter from the current Rs 103 per liter.

Petrol price in Delhi was higher than in NCR cities of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, where state governments announced reduction in VAT after reducing excise duty on fuel prices.
