Beer Cafe founder Rahul Singh claims that Delhi will completely ban the sale of liquor if the deadline is not extended before August 1. In such a scenario, he claimed, the supply of liquor to restaurants, taverns, bars and clubs would have to be stopped. Singh continued, adding that everyone, including customers, the government, businesses and their employees, would suffer a great loss. There will be chaos.

Now, to prevent the unrest arising due to the shortage of liquor in the city, the Delhi administration has agreed to extend the license of the existing liquor shop till August 31. However, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena should. First give your consent before opening 468 private liquor shops in the city.

According to officials, LG Saxena is yet to review and authorize the file. He is going to do it only on August 1. The license will be renewed unless the LG authorizes you to execute the government’s choice on the ground.

In Delhi, Excise and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia had already announced on Saturday that the country’s capital would resume the previous excise regime and that only government vendors would sell liquor starting Monday. But late in the evening the government announced that the existing policy would be extended for one more month.

Still, many restaurant owners insisted that, should the expansion materialize in the next day or two, the problem would not be as severe as those experienced by retail liquor stores. Many of them always have more than a month’s stock to serve their customers.

The new excise policy (2021-2022) requires HCR to select liquor from shops instead of wholesalers. This means HCR will have to buy liquor from shops for one month like the previous eight months. Hotels, clubs and restaurants will only have to start buying their liquor directly from wholesalers on September 1, as was the practice under the previous excise scheme.
