Before the swearing-in ceremony at the MCD Civic Centre, AAP and BJP corporators entered the Well and raised slogans. When the presiding officer and BJP councilor Satya Sharma started administering oath to the nominated BJP members in front of the elected councilors of AAP, the councilors started protesting.
The AAP has slammed the Delhi LG’s move to appoint BJP councilor Satya Sharma as temporary speaker, claiming that he “skewed” the civic body in favor of the BJP.
Delhi will get its next mayor today, a month after a high-stakes battle for control of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi saw the ruling Aam Aadmi Party defeat the BJP after three terms in power.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP has fielded Shaili Oberoi against BJP’s Shalimar Bagh corporator Rekha Gupta for the top post in the civic body.
The Congress has said it will not participate in the elections, choosing not to support either the AAP or the BJP.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said that AAP is creating ruckus in the house before the election of the mayor in the capital. “Why are you scared when they are in the majority? You MPs do the same in the Rajya Sabha. They should be allowed to vote,” he said.

“AAP Doesn’t Trust Its Councillors”: BJP’s Manoj Tiwari To NDTV
BJP leader Manoj Tiwari said AAP is obstructing the mayoral election process as it does not trust its corporators and has lost the election. The BJP, which lost the civic polls after being in power thrice, has claimed that it will win the mayor’s post. The anti-defection law does not apply to the civic body and councilors can vote to elect a BJP mayor.

The protest at the MCD Civic Center began when the presiding officer and BJP corporator Satya Sharma administered the oath of office to all BJP members as aldermen in front of AAP’s elected corporators. The AAP raised slogans protesting the move and claimed that it was “illegal” to administer oath to nominated members in front of elected members.
Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony at the MCD Civic Center in the national capital, AAP and BJP corporators barged into the Well, climbed onto chairs and raised slogans. The protest began when AAP members raised slogans as the presiding officer and BJP corporator Satya Sharma was about to start the election process.

AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the Centre’s representative in Delhi, of trying to influence the election and deliberately choosing members so that the civic body is “skewed” towards the BJP. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Saxena on Thursday appointed BJP corporator Satya Sharma as pro-tem speaker to preside over the election in place of Mukesh Goyal, who was recommended by the AAP.
