More than 330 access points have been established at 37 stations to provide uninterrupted internet access

New Delhi:

Delhi Metro commuters can now access internet using free high-speed WiFi at all its Yellow Line stations, as the DMRC launched the facility on Sunday.

Officials said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in collaboration with a technology consortium is working on introducing this facility inside metro trains (other than the Airport Express Line).

In January 2020, the urban transporter introduced a high-speed WiFi facility inside train coaches on the airport line connecting New Delhi and Dwarka Sector 21 stations.

This was the first such facility in any country in the South Asian region.

The 22.7 km long line on the Delhi Metro network has six stations – New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Aerocity, IGI Airport and Dwarka Sector 21.

The coronavirus pandemic hit the national capital in March 2020 and its impact had brought Delhi Metro services to a standstill.

“DMRC had introduced free WiFi service in its Airport Line trains on a trial basis, which were suspended in 2020 due to Covid-induced disruptions, and is now in the process of restoring within the next 10-15 days . DMRC said in a statement.

In its endeavor to continuously enhance the travel experience for its commuters, Delhi Metro has successfully introduced free high-speed WiFi service at all Metro stations on Yellow Line or Line-2, from Samaypur Badli to HUDA City Centre. Officials said work is underway to extend the facility to stations in other corridors of the network.

DMRC said that this high speed service on Yellow Line will prove to be a special boon for the students commuting to and from the North Delhi campus of Delhi University.

This service, coinciding with the festive season, has been introduced on this line, which has 37 metro stations, and runs mostly underground through one of the most congested parts of the city, from Outer Delhi, North Delhi to Central Delhi and South Delhi and finally. Gurgaon, officials said.

DMRC said that more than 330 access points have been set up at these 37 stations to provide uninterrupted internet access to the passengers.

Apart from providing free Wi-Fi at metro stations in its network, DMRC in association with Techno Sat Com is also endeavoring to introduce this facility inside metro trains within a year from here, the statement said.

Officials said that it is quite a challenging task to upgrade and establish desired access points in the already running trains.

To use the high-speed Internet facility at Yellow Line stations, a passenger must be logged on to the “OUI DMRC FREE WIFI” network.

After that, he/she will need to enter the phone number and email ID and an OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to the mobile number via SMS. After the login is successful, the passenger can enjoy free Wi-Fi service.

Passengers will be able to enjoy all standard internet applications like email, Facebook, YouTube, Google search, WhatsApp, video and audio calls after logging into the network.

Officials said that OUI DMRC free high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity is already available at all stations on the Blue Line of the Metro network.

The Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida Electronic City/Vaishali) has 50 metro stations, with more than 400 access points set up by DMRC, while the Airport Express Line has been provided with over 50 access points for uninterrupted internet access. can be provided. The statement said.

Officials said that with the introduction of high-speed Wi-Fi at all stations on the Yellow Line, “OUI DMRC Free Wi-Fi” is now available at 94 stations, including the interchange facility at the network’s New Delhi Metro station.
