NEW DELHI: Light rain lashed many parts of the capital on Sunday. Rain is likely to play a bad game during the Independence Day celebrations on Monday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD)IMD) has predicted light rain in the Red Fort area in the morning.
According to the IMD, Safdarjung, which is the base station of the city, recorded 4.8 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday. During the same period, Palam recorded 10.8 mm and Lodhi Road and Ridge recorded 6.4 mm of rainfall. Pusa and Ayanagar received 4.5 and 3.1 mm of rain, respectively.
The rain helped bring down the mercury. The maximum temperature on Sunday dropped to 34 degrees Celsius, while on Saturday it was 35.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 27.1 degree Celsius. Both the maximum and minimum temperatures remained near normal on Sunday. The relative humidity oscillates between 69% and 90%.
There is a possibility of light rain in the Red Fort area on Monday morning during the Independence Day celebrations. The IMD forecast said that the sky will be generally cloudy with very light rain from 12.30 pm to 6 am. There is a possibility of light rain with cloudy sky between 6 am to 10 am. Strong winds, with speed reaching up to 20-30 kmph at times, are very likely to prevail during the morning. The forecast also said that the maximum temperature around the Red Fort area would be around 34-36 degree Celsius. However, the day temperature in the city is likely to hover around 33 degree Celsius.
IMD senior scientist RK Jenamani said, “Monsoon trough has moved closer to Delhi and received light rain on Sunday. There is a possibility of light rain on Monday as well. However, it is likely to be a temporary spell of rain as the Monsoon Trough is predicted to move away from Delhi from August 16.
Weather officials said the intensity of rain is likely to reduce from August 16 and the temperature in the capital may rise by two to three degrees from next week. Very light rain has been predicted from Tuesday.
The IMD said that very light rain or thundershowers are likely on August 16 and 17, while very light rain or drizzle is likely on August 18 and 19.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category. The overall air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 84. The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) said the air quality of the capital is likely to remain in the ‘satisfactory’ category for the next three days. Rain.
