Delhi News Live: Parliament logjam may end today as opposition approaches government; BJP vs AAP over delay in MCD mayor election

Works Minister Prahlad Joshi and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal held a meeting with the leaders of the House of the opposition parties on Monday.

During the meetings, party line leaders were of the view that the motion of thanks to the President’s address should be discussed. Opposition sources said Parliament is likely to function normally on Tuesday to discuss the motion of thanks to the President’s address.

Meanwhile, the MCD House was adjourned for the third time in a month without completing the election process. In light of this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and said it was resorting to the pretext of stalling the mayoral election.

At the same time, AAP leader Atishi said on Monday that the party will approach the Supreme Court to challenge the BJP’s decision to give voting rights to aldermen.

Regarding this, BJP’s working president Virendra Sachdeva, MP, MLA, councilor and other senior leaders will protest at AAP office on Tuesday at 11 am. AAP will also protest against BJP at 11 am.

The first two sessions of the MCD House were held on 6 January and 24 January respectively, and were adjourned by the presiding officer without electing a mayor. The session was marred by ruckus and heated exchanges between members of BJP and AAP.
