Delhi private schools asked to remain closed till next week due to cold wave

Delhi government has advised to keep all private schools closed till January 15 due to cold wave. The Directorate of Education’s advisory came on a day when Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius.

The circular said, “In continuation of the earlier circular of DOE (Directorate of Education), all private schools in Delhi are advised to remain closed till January 15, 2023.”

Most of the private schools in Delhi had winter break till January 8 and were scheduled to open tomorrow.

Delhi’s government schools will also remain closed till January 15.

Today, Delhi recorded its second lowest minimum temperature in the last ten years – 1.9 degree Celsius. The temperature was recorded at Safdarjung Meteorological Center this morning. For the first time in the last 10 years, the national capital witnessed the coldest morning on January 1, 2021, when the minimum temperature was 1.1 degree Celsius.

Dense fog accompanied by cold wave has also affected road, rail and air traffic. The visibility near Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was reduced to 50 meters at 5.30 am today.

The India Meteorological Department has urged people to limit outdoor activity as it can lead to frostbite.
