Delhi: Schools to reopen today after prolonged closure, many planning to delay

many schools in Delhi While many are set to reopen on September 1 after a prolonged shutdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many have opted for a wait-and-see approach and will call on students only after a few weeks.

After a marked improvement in the city, the AAP-led Delhi government had announced that schools, colleges and coaching institutes for classes 9 to 12 would reopen from today.

The Delhi government had clarified that no student would be forced to attend physical classes and parental consent would be mandatory.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Twitter that “team education” is ready to safely reopen schools.

A top principal said, “Only 20 per cent students have sent their parental consent forms so far. We will wait till we have at least 50 per cent student strength. Plans to reopen Postponed for a few weeks.” School that did not want recognition.

Mount Carmel School in Dwarka is also not planning to reopen for at least a month as its entire staff is yet to be vaccinated and online learning will continue.

“We’re not ready to open our schools yet. They haven’t started vaccinating kids and all my staff haven’t been vaccinated. We’re still in the middle of a pandemic. We’re not going to take any chances,” Michael Williams, dean of Mount Carmel School.

He said, “It is being said that Zydus has launched its vaccine for 12-18 year olds. I think it is smarter to wait two more months. We have waited for a long time and we can do something. And can wait.”

Meanwhile, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh is all set to welcome the students from Wednesday, however, they are not yet going to provide buses and the students will have to come on their own.

DDMA issues guidelines

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued guidelines for the reopening of schools, colleges and coaching institutes.

The guidelines announced by DDMA for reopening of schools and colleges from September 1 include allowing only 50 per cent students per class, mandatory thermal screening, lunch breaks, alternate seating arrangements and avoidance of regular guest visits.

DDMA has said that students, teachers and non-teaching staff living in the Kovid Containment Zone will not be allowed to come to schools and colleges.

While the government has noted that activities like vaccination centers and ration distribution which were going on in various schools, DDMA said that the area used for these activities should be separated from the area which is used for educational activities. Will go

Meanwhile, according to Delhi’s health bulletin, Delhi recorded 28 new cases of coronavirus within 24 hours.

With this, the total number of corona virus cases in Delhi has increased to 14,37,764. The positivity rate is now 0.05 percent.

The national capital has recorded one death due to the disease in the last 24 hours. With this, the total death toll due to coronavirus in the national capital has reached 25,082. The case fatality rate is 1.74 percent.

At present, there are 349 active COVID-19 cases in Delhi. A total of 84 people are in home isolation.

The recovery rate reached 98.23 percent, which is the highest ever. 53 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in Delhi to 14,12,333.

The number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the national capital in the last 24 hours is 55,371 which includes 43,167 RT-PCR tests and 12,204 rapid antigen tests.

The number of containment zones in Delhi is 138.

Further, as per the data available on the CoWin portal, 1,35,574 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were administered in the national capital on Tuesday.
