Delhi Sultanpuri accident live updates: Multiple CCTV visuals of car that dragged woman across surface, demand probe into rape allegations

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday condemned the incident and said those behind it should be given “severest punishment”. Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said the incident was “shameful” and the culprits should be given “severest punishment”.

“What happened to our sister in Kanjhawala is very shameful. I hope the culprits get the harshest punishment,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor said in a tweet in Hindi.

CCTV footage of the accident has been found and five people have been arrested on charges of negligence, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. The woman, identified as Anjali, used to work part-time in marriage and other works. She was returning home from one such function when the incident happened.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the city police regarding the incident. Police said the victim’s body has been sent to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri for post-mortem, said a PTI report on Monday.

According to sources, the victim’s leg got entangled in one of the wheels of the car and she was dragged for about four kilometres.

An NDTV report said that the woman’s mother, Rekha, alleged that the men sexually assaulted her. However, the police rejected the theory of considering the incident as a case of rape. “False and frivolous media reports are being circulated by projecting the incident as a rape-murder case,” PTI quoted the police officer as saying.
