Delhi to witness thundersquall during next 24 hours

Northwestern regions including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to witness thundersquall or gusty wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph during the next 24 hours, India Meteorological Department said. 

This is due to a cyclonic circulation laying over Jharkhand and neighbourhood and another cyclonic circulation laying over east Bangladesh and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. 

Heavy rainfall is seen over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and northeast Rajasthan today and moderate to heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, western regions of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. 

Under the same weather system, hailstorm is likely over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan till Thursday; over Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. Dust storm or thunderstorm with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph could be observed over Rajasthan during Wednesday to Friday. Strong Surface winds with speed 25-35 kmph is expected over plains of northwest India till Thursday, the weather bureau said.

Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura may get heavy rainfall during Wednesday to Friday, while Bihar is anticipated to see similar weather pattern till Thursday and west Bengal and Sikkim from Wednesday to Friday, and hailstorm is likely on Wednesday. 

No significant change in maximum temperature likely over central and west India over the next 24 hours and fall by 2-4°C thereafter, according to the weather bureau. Fall in maximum temperatures by 4-6°C is expected over northwest India during the next two days and no significant change thereafter. A drop of 2-4°C in temperature is seen over eastern parts of the country over the next two days and no significant change likely thereafter. The maximum temperature in the rest of the country is likely to prevail for the next five days. 

On Tuesday, maximum temperatures were in the range of 42-45°C over many parts of Vidarbha, some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, over Odisha and below 40°C in the rest parts of the country. Maximum Temperatures were above normal by 2-3°C over some parts of Punjab, West Bengal, coastal Odisha and parts of Northeast India and near normal over rest parts of the country. Heat wave conditions prevailed on Tuesday in isolated pockets of Delhi, northeast Madhya Pradesh and southwest Uttar Pradesh.
