Google forms for parental consent, sanitizing labs, inquiring about immunization status of students – these are some of the measures being taken by Delhi University colleges as they begin their final year graduation and post-graduation from Wednesday Practical lab sessions for students are ready to start again. College principals said they are expecting lesser number of students on Wednesday as most of them who are from outside Delhi will not be able to make it.
“We have posted the Google form for parental consent. We are doing theory classes online and practical classes offline so that the combination is not suited to those living outside Delhi, which is why many may have said no to come to the college,” said Dr Anju Srivastava, principal of Hindu College. She said they would have a fairly manageable number of students.
“For example, if we have 25 students, we’ll split them into groups of two, meaning we’ll have no more than 12-15 students in a large lab, and 8-10 in a small lab. There won’t be more than one student,” she said. Professor Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges of Delhi University and Principal of Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, said that students are expected to come from Delhi and if students from outside Delhi also come, they will face the problem of finding accommodation.
“We will watch the voting and then decide on the feasibility of holding physical classes. Libraries have been opened and we will see how crowded the library is and this will give us an idea of how many students are coming to the colleges to issue books. Rajdhani College principal Dr Rajesh Giri said that they have sent Google forms to the students to get their parents’ consent. The form requires them to fill in details regarding their vaccination status, mode of transport, etc.
“If they have not received a single dose of the coronavirus vaccine, we will take them to the nearby Shivaji College, where the vaccines are being administered. There are sanitizing machines inside the college and we have also got gloves and masks for the students who might have forgotten them. We are fully prepared and have formed a task force to reopen the college. Srivastava said he would give preference to students who have received both the doses, but will be allowed those who have taken the first dose. But there will be no entry for those who have not yet been vaccinated, she said.
“This will motivate them to get vaccinated. There are several staff members who will ensure that all COVID protocols are being followed. Having the Aarogya Setu app on the phone is also a mandatory requirement, while we have tested the students for the latest RT-PCR The report has also been sought. If students find difficulty in getting it, we will see what needs to be done,” she said. In an order issued last week regarding phased reopening, the university said that The physical presence of the students may be optional and has to be decided.
It has also been said in the order that the teaching and non-teaching staff of colleges, departments, centers should get both the doses of Kovid vaccine at the earliest. “It is further advised that all the students entering the college/department/university should receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Though both doses of COVID-19 vaccine are required for hostel students, ensure that residents have at least one dose of the vaccine,” the order read.
