Dell sheds over 6,500 jobs as tech layoffs: report

Bloomberg News reported Monday that Dell Technologies will eliminate about 6,650 jobs, or about five percent of its global workforce, hurt by falling demand for its personal computers.

The report said the company is facing market conditions that “continue to loom with an uncertain future,” co-chief operating officer Jeff Clarke wrote in a memo to employees.

In the memo, Clarke said previous cost-cutting measures, including hiring freezes and travel limits, are no longer sufficient.

A spokeswoman for the company told Bloomberg News that the department’s reorganization and job cuts are an opportunity to increase efficiency.

Dell did not immediately respond to an email from Reuters seeking comment.

Companies from Microsoft to Amazon.com and Goldman Sachs Group have recently cut thousands of jobs to help address a slump in demand as high inflation and rising interest rates curtail consumer and corporate spending.

google original alphabet too annihilated 12,000 jobs last month. The job losses affected teams across the company, including recruiting and some corporate functions as well as some engineering and product teams.

The announcement comes days after Microsoft Said It will eliminate 10,000 jobs and take a $1.2 billion charge to earnings, as its cloud-computing customers reevaluate their spending and the company prepares for a possible recession.

Audio streaming giant Spotify also announced redundancies in January, saying it was cutting six percent of its workforce and would take related charges of up to about $50 million (roughly Rs. 408 crores).

Layoffs in the United States hit a two-year high in January, a report showed on Thursday, as technology firms cut jobs at the second-highest pace to prepare for a possible recession.
