Dengue Outbreak: From Uttar Pradesh to MP, Viral Fever wreaks havoc across India

Many states of the country are battling the outbreak of dengue fever. However, Uttar Pradesh is the most affected state by dengue. So far 97 cases of dengue have been reported in Prayagraj district of the northern state on Wednesday. Out of these 97 cases, at present around nine dengue patients were admitted in hospitals.

Uttar Pradesh is witnessing the highest number of dengue cases among children. So far 60 children have died of dengue in Firozabad and 465 children are still admitted in the child ward of the medical college of the district.

So far 35 people have been infected with dengue in Agra district of UP. While six cases of dengue have been confirmed in Gorakhpur.

Recently, ICMR Director General Dr Balram Bhargava told that a D2 strain Found in Mathura, Agra and Firozabad districts, dengue was fatal and could lead to bleeding. According to experts, Dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2 or D2) is known to be the most virulent strain and can cause severe disease.

List of Indian states/districts currently having dengue outbreaks:

Mumbai

Mumbai has reported 305 dengue cases since January 2021, including 85 in September. No one has died of the mosquito-borne disease so far this year. Between September 1 and 12 this year, 85 dengue cases were reported in Mumbai, while 144 cases were reported last month.

The pest control department of Mumbai inspected 4,46,077 houses and detected and destroyed 4,108 mosquito breeding sites as a preventive measure against the disease.

Haryana

Many cases of high fever and death of two people have been reported in Mirch village of Haryana’s Hathin town of Palwal district. As a result, health department teams have reached the village to check the spread of fever.

Dr. Vijay Kumar, Senior Medical Officer, Hathin said, “Medicines are being made available and an outpatient department (OPD) is being run. Spraying is being done. We have taken samples of 80 people who have fever. There is no case of malaria. Reported. Due to dengue, 4-5 children have died and many children are ill.”

Indore

A total of 139 dengue cases have been reported in the city so far. The district administration has started conducting larvae survey and fumigation is also being done to kill the larvae. apart from this, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra directed the officials to carry out anti-mosquito campaign to check dengue disease in the state.

Delhi

in the national capital DelhiSo far 158 cases have been reported. Out of which 34 cases have been registered in the first 11 days of September.

However, no death has been reported from dengue in the city so far.

According to the civic report released on Monday, till September 11 this year, 68 cases of malaria and 40 cases of chikungunya have also been reported.

What is Dengue?

Dengue virus is spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito.

What are the symptoms of dengue?

The most common symptom of dengue is fever with any of the following:

  • nausea vomiting
  • rash
  • aches and pains (eye pain, usually behind the eyes, muscle, joint, or bone pain)

The symptoms of dengue usually last for 2-7 days. Most people will be fine after about a week.

Symptoms of severe dengue

  • abdominal pain, tenderness
  • Vomiting (at least 3 times in 24 hours)
  • nose or gum bleeding
  • vomiting blood, or blood in the stool
  • feeling tired, restless or irritable

Treatment of dengue

There is no specific medicine to treat dengue. If a person experiences any of the above symptoms then he should go to the doctor.

Is there any vaccine for Dengue?

There is no dengue vaccine in India. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a dengue vaccine is available for children ages 9 to 16 in the US.
