Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain on Tuesday resigned from their posts in the state cabinet.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accepted his resignation. His resignation will now be sent to LG VK Saxena of Delhi.

The development comes two days after Mr Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Mr Sisodia was arrested on Sunday in an ongoing probe into a case related to alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to entertain Sisodia’s plea challenging his arrest in an excise policy case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said the court was not inclined to entertain the plea at this stage and suggested Mr Sisodia to approach the Delhi High Court.

The court remarked, “It cannot interfere in the matter as it may open doors for people to approach the Apex Court in every such matter”.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court sent him to CBI custody for 5 days on Monday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned Satyendar Jain in Tihar Jail in connection with alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy.

Mr Jain is currently in judicial custody in connection with another case related to a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

His name had cropped up in this case along with another Delhi cabinet minister and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

According to the lawyers concerned, the CBI has also questioned Vijay Nair, who is lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the ED’s case related to the excise policy. The trial court had earlier granted bail to Nair in a CBI case.

Recently, the CBI and ED have made several arrests for alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy.
