Nagpur: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Leader Devendra Fadnavis On Saturday targeted the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray Shiv Sena is saying Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) The government was the most corrupt in the state’s history and extortion was its “sole agenda”.
The former chief minister alleged that the MVA government came to power through dishonesty and claimed that the BJP was the number one party in the state.
He made this statement a day after Thackeray, who is also the president of the party Shiv Sena, attacked the BJP without a hitch during the annual Shiv Sena Dussehra Rally Here.
“Thackeray’s speech reflects his desperation. You can try to malign the BJP, but the party is firmly grounded. You must remember that the BJP is the number one party in the state,” Fadnavis told reporters here.
“You are saying that people rejected BJP, but in reality they rejected NCP-Congress and promoted you (Shiv Sena). The seats we fought together (in the 2019 assembly elections), Out of them, BJP had won about 70 per cent seats and Shiv Sena had won 45 per cent seats. Therefore, you have been dishonest with people’s vote and came to power.”
The BJP and Shiv Sena parted ways after the 2019 assembly elections on the issue of the chief minister’s post. The Thackeray-led party later joined hands with the NCP and Congress to form the government. In that election, the BJP won 105 seats in the 288-member House, followed by Shiv Sena (56), NCP (54) and Congress (48).
“This is a dishonest government and I think respected Uddhavji should now accept that he had an ambition to become the chief minister which he fulfilled. In politics, it is not wrong to have ambition. But if you want to make your point, So you can make senior Shiv Sena leaders Diwakar Raote, Subhash Desai or Eknath Shinde the chief minister.
In the past, Thackeray had said several times that he had promised his late father Bal Thackeray to install a ‘Shiv Sainik’ (party worker) as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
“If you really didn’t want to be the CM, why did Narayan Rane have to leave Shiv Sena? Rane didn’t want to be the party chief. Also, why did Raj Thackeray leave Shiv Sena?” Fadnavis asked.
The BJP leader said that if you had the ambition to become the Chief Minister, it is fine, but now please stop blaming us.
On Thackeray’s allegation that central agencies like ED and CBI were being misused, Fadnavis claimed, “These agencies were acting on the orders of the High Court and the reason is that the government led by you Most corrupt in the history of Maharashtra.”
“You must note that it will be recorded in the history of Maharashtra that it is the most corrupt government in the history of the state. This government has only one agenda, which is extortion,” he alleged.
Fadnavis further said that the Income Tax Department raids revealed that there was rampant corruption in the state.
The brokerage has reached such a level that some ministers have even got software of extortion made to know from whom how much money is to be recovered. For the state,” he claimed.
Fadnavis said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi never allows these agencies to be misused.
He said that the Prime Minister never interferes in the work of these agencies nor does it use them for political gains.
“Had these agencies been misused, half of the total number of your ministers would be in jail. But we believe in democracy and will not misuse these agencies. The previous governments led by Congress and its allies used these agencies. One thing is certain that Modi ji will not rest till he completely eliminates corruption.”
During his Dussehra speech, Thackeray urged Shiv Sena workers and the people of Maharashtra to emulate the example of Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal, which stood before the BJP.
Referring to this, the BJP leader asked Thackeray, “Why do you want to turn Maharashtra into a state (WB) where no industry could flourish due to Sangh’s activities and extortion? Where people were forced to speak against you.” beaten and hanged. Do you want to make such a Maharashtra? But BJP will never let Maharashtra become Bengal, it will remain like Maharashtra.
Fadnavis said that Thackeray in his speech raised questions on Centre-state relations and federal structure and talked about the constitution framed by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
He said, “The constitution made by Dr. Ambedkar will never change and no one can do that. So, this agenda of changing the constitution by taking some communists and left-wing ideological parties along, we will never let it happen.”
Asked about Thackeray’s statement in which he had challenged the BJP to topple his government, Fadnavis said he would not even know if the government was to fall.
“I just want to say that we are not interested in it. We are interested in issues related to people. Why do you always ask to topple the government? You should solve the issues facing the people, do your work Must show, show how you can help farmers, show that you can run the government.”
On Thackeray’s statement about the NCB raids, Fadnavis said he should decide on whose side he is on – whether it is in favor of drug suppliers and consumers or those working against drug peddlers.
