Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister on Monday Devendra Fadnavis Reacting strongly to Uddhav’s remark, he said, “You only gave speech during the Ram Mandir agitation, we were the ones who had to face bullets and sticks.”
Fadnavis also took a dig at Shiv Sena’s alliance with Congress and said: “I challenge them (Shiv Sena) to tweet just one post for Balasaheb Thackeray, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi with whom they are sitting.”
He said, “I want to remind them that their party (Shiv Sena) was not born even when BJP already had a councilor in Mumbai. As long as they were with us, they were No 1 or Used to be the No. 2 party, but now they are here. No. 4,” Fadnavis said while taking a dig at Shiv Sena’s performance in the local body elections.
Union Minister Raosaheb Patil Danve also hit out at Uddhav’s party and said, “Shiv Sena quoted Savarkar during campaign speeches in Dombivli. Is this a Hindutva party? … Today Uddhav Thackeray behaves in exact opposite to Balasaheb’s preaching. Hindutva parties in the greed of power.
Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut also attacked the BJP and said, “We have taken BJP from bottom to top in Maharashtra. After Babri, there was a wave of Shiv Sena in North India. We (Shiv Sena) had a prime minister in the country but we left it to them. BJP only uses Hindutva for power.”
After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena broke away from the BJP and formed an alliance with the NCP and Congress to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena’s alliance partner, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), also jumped into the debate and defended Uddhav’s remarks against the BJP.
NCP leader Nawab Malik said, “It is true that the parties which had an alliance with the BJP gradually perished. It is good to be proud of one’s religion, but it is not right to have hatred towards other religions.”
