In addition, the regulator has asked the airline, aircraft maker Boeing and engine manufacturer CFM to join the investigation and provide all information regarding the engine malfunction that occurred on Thursday, Mr Kumar noted.

In a statement regarding the incident, the budget carrier’s spokesperson had said on Thursday: “The operation of SpiceJet flight SG-467 Mumbai-Kolkata returned to Mumbai after taking off due to a technical problem. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai. ” All MAX aircraft were stopped in India by the DGCA on March 13, 2019, three days after the Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX plane crashed near Addis Ababa, killing 157 people, including four Indians.

The DGCA on August 26 this year lifted the ban on commercial flight operations of Max aircraft, following necessary software improvements by Boeing.

SpiceJet last month resumed operations of its Max aircraft for commercial flight operations.

SpiceJet, the sole operator of MAX aircraft in the country, inked a $22 billion deal with Boeing in 2017 for 205 planes and currently has 13 of these in its fleet.
