The political atmosphere heated up on Friday, weeks ahead of the bypolls to the Dhamnagar assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bhadrak district, when a senior BJD leader filed his nomination as an independent candidate, indicating a power struggle in the ruling party in Odisha. was.

Putting to rest all speculations, BJD leader Rajendra Das filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the by-polls.

The announcement was made after the BJD on Thursday named Abanti Das as its candidate for the upcoming bypolls. After the verdict, Das wrote a letter expressing his anger for the neglect. According to the information, senior BJD leaders were present when the party announced its candidate and agreed to its decision.

However, a day after the party’s announcement, Das’s move to file nomination as an independent fueled speculation in the political circles.

Das said, “I will contest the by-election to serve Dhamnagar with the blessings of the people. I have been working for the people of Dhamnagar since last few years. I always stand by the people. He has sympathy for me and I am confident of victory.”

Meanwhile, the state BJP has fielded Suryavanshi Suraj, son of late Vishnu Charan Sethi. Sooraj filed his nomination on Tuesday. The Congress on Wednesday declared Baba Harekrishna Sethi as its candidate. Sethi, a lawyer by profession, thanked Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and OPCC president Sharat Patnaik for nominating him as party’s candidates for the Dhamnagar bypoll.

The by-election was held on September 19 after the death of BJP MLA Vishnu Charan Das.
