In view of the onset of monsoon, farmers have started sowing in over 25,000 hectares in Dharwad taluk and had come to buy DAP and urea on Wednesday. It was reportedly said by the officials that due to the shortage, they were asked to distribute fertilizers in limited quantities to the farmers, after which they were disappointed.
However, Rajasekhar, joint director of agriculture, said the district has a stock of 20,800 metric tonnes of various chemical fertilisers, including 6,916 tonnes of DAP. He said that the district has received 3890 tonnes of DAP on 31st May and 1st June and it has been supplied to all the primary agricultural credit cooperative societies of the district. He said that fertilizers will be supplied as per the demand and farmers can buy as per the requirement.
A farmer said that farmers are coming to Dharwad every day at 5 am and standing in queues in front of distribution centres, but they are getting only five bags of manure, which is insufficient.
