The agency had registered the biggest ever bank fraud case last month alleging that a consortium of 17 banks was defrauded to the tune of ₹34,615 crore.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Ajay Ramesh Navander, a businessman from Mumbai. Bank fraud case of ₹34,615 crore Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL), its promoters and others.

During the search on July 8The agency had seized two paintings worth around Rs 35 crore, luxury watches and other items worth over Rs 1 crore from the premises of the accused. The CBI suspects that the artefacts and watches belong to former DHFL chairman-cum-managing director Kapil Wadhawan and director Dheeraj Wadhawan.

“The seized items were allegedly acquired from funds diverted by the Wadhawans. Acting on an input that Mr. Nawandar was trying to dispose of the main accused persons at the behest of them, the agency conducted searches. Mr Nawandar was allegedly part of a conspiracy to dispose of the items purchased using the proceeds of the crime,” said a CBI official.

The agency had last month registered the biggest ever bank fraud case, alleging that a consortium of 17 banks was defrauded. Those named in the FIR include Sudhakar Shetty of Sahana Group, Amarelis Realtors, Gulmarg Realtors, Skylark Buildcon, Darshan Developers, Sigatia Construction, Krytos Builders, Township Developers, Shishir Realty and Sunblink Real Estate.
