Diabetes: 5 Guilt-Free Drinks for a Sugar-Smart Summer

Sugar free drinks: It is a good idea to adjust your diet now as summer is in full swing. We should opt for hydrating foods and healthy drinks to keep cool and energised. Though packaged products may seem more useful, it is always better to opt for the handmade option.

For the sake of our health and body, it is essential that we stay hydrated, especially during summers. This is even more important for people with diabetes because of changes in blood sugar levels. Higher body temperature induces a drop in sugar levels while sunburn can increase them. Staying hydrated will go a long way towards keeping your composure and blood sugar levels under control. We’re shedding some light on which beverages you can have and which you should ideally avoid to help.

Luckily, you can quickly make a variety of delectable cocktails at home. When we mention summer, you can imagine lassi, delicious sherbet, ice cream smoothies and flavored sodas. But some people may have a problem with the high sugar content in these beverages. This season, if you’re looking to limit your sugar intake, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 5 healthy summer drinks that you can sip on guilt-free this season:

vegetable water

Drink it by soaking 1-2 teaspoons of sabja seeds in water overnight (or at least for 20 minutes).

lemon mint juice

Mix mint leaves, lemon juice and water. Enjoy after adding ice cubes.

cumin buttermilk

Mix together curd, water and salt as per taste. Add a pinch of cumin powder before serving

Carrot Kanji

Add salt and mustard powder to the water and boil the carrots, in 3-4 days the taste of mustard becomes strong in the sun.

Sattu Sharbat

This sattu sharbat contains a little jaggery, and the base is made using roasted gram, cumin, red chilli powder, ginger powder, mint and black salt.

Similar drinks are iced herbal teas, which are basically some brewed tea with ice cubes in it; peppermint, chamomile and hibiscus teas are excellent choices. A slice of lemon or lime can be added for flavor or infused water that is cold water and fresh produce (fruits, vegetables and herbs).

These beverages will help you beat the heat while maintaining a balanced sugar intake.
