Tea is one of the most-loved beverages across India. Countless people swear by this humble drink to wake them up first thing in the morning. From masala chai to black tea, cutting chai to elaichi-adrak chai – there are so many varieties of tea available all over. Traditionally, a tea set was used to serve this drink complete with a saucer, a cup and a tea cosy. Recently, Guinness World Records shared a post about the most valuable teapot in the world which has held the record since 2016.

The luxury teapot has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the most valuable teapot on September 6, 2016. Titled ‘the Egoist’, the teapot was commissioned by UK-based charity N. Setia Foundation and sponsored by Newby Teas of London. It was crafted by Italian jeweller Fulvio Scavia. Its cost is a whopping USD 3 million and has 1658 diamonds encrusted in it from every angle. A base of 18-karat gold and parts of gold-plated silver is used in the making of the teapot. Fossilised mammoth ivory was used to craft its handle. Further, the teapot also has 386 authentic rubies from Thailand and Burma on the lid, giving it an even grander look at the exterior.
As per Guinness World Records, the teapot has immense historical and financial value. “the teapot forms is owned by the N Sethia Foundation, a philanthropic organization that provides education, spiritual activities, and medical research in London. The designer of the glittering treasure was the charity’s founder and Chairman of Newby Teas, Nirmal Sethia, who wanted to create a teapot as a tribute to the world’s finest teas.
