Atletio Madrid coach Diego Simeone has admitted the team needs to turn things around after a disappointing start to the season. They were beaten 1-0 by Alves on Saturday in LaLiga, while their stalemate with Porto in their first Champions League Group B game earlier this month means they have no error when they face AC Milan on Tuesday. There is no scope.

“We have played a lot of matches this season where our opponents have prevented us from making it,” Simone said.

“We are behind a season that teams have been able to use to get to know us, and work on what we are good at. It is up to us to grow and change.”

Simeone has taken Thomas Lemar back from a thigh injury for a stadium visit he knows well, having spent two years at city rivals Inter Milan during his playing days.

“We know we are up against a tough opponent, who has a good team and who plays dynamic things,” Simeone said.

“It is a great opportunity to play in the Champions League against a team like Milan, great teams. They have grown and improved a lot over the years and of course I love the stadium there.”

Stefan Savic, who is serving the second of a four-game suspension from last season, is the only player missing for Atleti.

The second game of the group is Porto against Liverpool, who beat Milan 3–2 on the first match.
