Diesel crosses Rs 100 per liter in six districts of West Bengal. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: Diesel prices crossed century mark in six districts of West Bengal Purulia, Murshidabad, Nadia, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar And Darjeeling on Tuesday.
In October last year, these six districts were the first to hit the century mark for the first time until the prices were revised down to Rs 100 in the first week of November.
The hike has created panic among farmers, traders and tour operators, who, like last time, had sought state and Centre’s intervention.
“The steep rise in diesel price is already fueling inflation at a time when people are still bearing the brunt of the Covid-induced loss of income. The fuel price includes freight charges and other taxes levied by the Center and states. As a result, petro products are more in remote and hinterland areas. In Kolkata also the price of diesel is around Rs 100 as against a day or two ago.’
Sources said that farmers will suffer the most as power tillers, crop harvesters and vehicles running on diesel are used. So do private tour operators as well as public transporters.
Somnath Kha, a tourist car operator from Purulia said, “Car rates are fixed for the tourist season, but with the way diesel prices are rising, it is impossible for us to make a profit even after spending so much on fuel. ”
Petrol and diesel prices in Kolkata were hiked again for the 13th time in 15 days. Petrol is now at Rs 114.28 after a hike of 80p. Diesel is now less than a rupee of a century and now costs Rs 99.02
Shoji Prasad, manager of a fuel station in north Kolkata, said: “We are hearing that prices will continue to rise further and thus oil marketing companies are refusing to provide us bulk supplies at this time to cut our losses as well. Huh. ,
