Monsoon rains have resumed in India this month after a short season in August. The data shows that local diesel sales during September 1-15 were down by about 0.9% as compared to the same period in August.

Improved power supply also contributed to the decline in diesel demand.

In contrast, petrol sales remained above the pre-COVID level by 1.02 million tonnes as people preferred to use private vehicles over public transport and share mobility for safety reasons.
