‘Distortions, lies’: Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission director slams Jude Anthony’s 2018 film

PS Srikala slams 2018 director Jude Anthony Joseph for lack of fact-checking.

In an extensive social media post, the director of the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission expressed his disapproval of the 2018 film’s execution.

Film director Jude Anthony Joseph’s latest film 2018 is released in theaters on 5 May 2018. This Malayalam-language thriller is set against the backdrop of the devastating 2018 Kerala floods. Having an IMDB rating of 9 out of 10 as of 2018 is currently receiving accolades and accolades. But, there are those who have found flaws in the Judd Anthony directorial. One of them is PS Sreekala, director of the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission. According to Srikalah, 2018 is based on “half-truths”, including several incidents of concealment of the truth, blatant distortions and lack of proper research by Jude.

In an extensive social media post, the director of the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission expressed his disapproval of the 2018 film’s execution. “Presentation of half truth is as dangerous and reprehensible as propaganda. Cinema is one area that has greatly benefited from the development of technology. It is in this context that some films do not need to be celebrated. On the contrary, it would be a pity not to use such possibilities materially,” she wrote.

“But it is a clever strategy to use the best technology… Jude Anthony has implemented that strategy well in the film. The director was heard saying that the film was born out of his guilt. I don’t know if he really said that. If they have said so then the blame must come from the unscientific observation that the opening of the dam was the cause of the 2018 floods. And the film more or less tries to establish that principle to an extent,” Sreekala said.

Clear of his discontent, Sreekala admitted that it was an “exhilarating” experience to see all Keralites coming together to engage in reparative campaigns. But she pointed out that 2018 showed the Kerala chief minister as helpless, which she argued was not the case. Sreekala said the CM was always on top of matters, urging people to come forward.

Srikalah highlighted the lack of research in 2018, as he wrote, “There were some racist people who refused to go in boats that smelled of fish. The main obstacles in front of the boats were large gates and walls in front of many houses. The youth voluntarily came forward under the leadership of the local self-governing institutions. They were coordinated by local governments.”

To conclude, Sreekala questioned, “2018 is a film based on some factual distortions, camouflage, lies and some truths. What is the difference between art without honesty and justice and the media spreading lies?

2018 features a star-studded cast including Tovini Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Aparna Balamurali, Shebin Benson, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Kalaiyarasan and Indrans in pivotal roles.
