Lakshmi Puja 2022: Significance

On the day of Diwali, everyone wakes up early in the morning to clean their house and prepare for the puja. They wear new clothes and decorate their homes and temples. Then in the evening during Pradosh Kaal, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshiped together.

Goddess Lakshmi is considered the goddess of wealth, fortune, luxury and prosperity, while Ganesha is the lord of wisdom and knowledge. Furthermore, it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi, on the night of Diwali, bestows wealth and prosperity to her devotees, if she is worshiped with full faith and sincerity.

Lakshmi Puja Method:

Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped during the Pardosh period. Just before the ritual begins, a new piece of cloth is offered to the goddess. A handful of grains are spread in the middle of the cloth. The next step would be to prepare a ‘kalash’. Fill half of the Kalash with Gangajal, betel nut, flowers, coin, mango leaves and rice grains. Place an uncut coconut with the fiber spread upwards in such a way that the mango leaves are partly inside and partly outside.

Then prepare the puja thali, which has rice grains, which have to be kept in a heap. Then a lotus is drawn using turmeric powder over the grain and the idol of Goddess Lakshmi is placed on it along with the idol of Lord Ganesha. Once the Lakshmi-Ganesh idols are strategically placed, you can also keep your books, pens or any such personal items to seek the blessings of the deity. With all this, it’s time to light the lamp. Light a special Diwali Diya, and place it in the puja thali. Devotees then worship Goddess Lakshmi, seeking her blessings for prosperity, success and happiness.
