During the auspicious occasion of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped by Hindu devotees. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi (a symbol of prosperity and wealth) comes to bless her devotees on this holy day. According to the Hindu calendar, Diwali is celebrated every year on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik.
People decorate their homes and workplaces with marigold flowers and leaves of Ashoka, mango and banana for Lakshmi Puja. They keep a Manglik Kalash with unpeeled coconut on either side of the main entrance of their house. Devotees also observe a one-day fast on the day of Lakshmi Puja. The fast is broken after worshiping in the evening.

Before performing the puja, water chestnut, pomegranate and sitaphal are offered to Goddess Lakshmi. There is also sugarcane in the place of worship. Finally, Kesarbhat, Kheer and Halwa are offered as bhog to Goddess Lakshmi.
