British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Indian-origin British Home Secretary Priti Patel visited the Nesden Temple to celebrate Diwali and the Hindu New Year with devotees. BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in London is popularly known as ‘Nesden Mandir’. Johnson was welcomed with auspicious signs in the traditional Hindu manner at a temple in north London. A seven-year-old girl, Amisha Patel, presented Johnson on behalf of BAPS a long-sleeved T-shirt for her one-year-old son, Wilfred. Home Secretary Priti Patel joined the Prime Minister to offer baskets of fruits to the central shrine of the temple’s inner sanctum. Both performed Abhishek to Lord Swaminarayan. PM Johnson and Priti Patel watch demonstrations during the pandemic summarizing the Covid-19 relief efforts of Nesden Temple, an initiative inspired by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. He also met some Indian-origin BAPS devotees who were prominent activists as well as volunteers. The Prime Minister extended Diwali and New Year greetings to all members of the Hindu community living in the UK.
