DMK MP said, sought time from President to recall Tamil Nadu Governor

Party MP Kanimozhi on Sunday said the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has sought an appointment with President Draupadi Murmu to file its plea to recall Governor RN Ravi.

He said that it is not right on the part of the Governor to comment on the representatives who have been elected by the people.

“Consistently, the governors of those states which are not governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party indulge in acts that go against the Constitution. Such governors are deliberately making remarks against the ruling government,” she told reporters.

Further, the DMK women’s wing secretary said, “The governor’s derogatory remarks against the representatives who are elected by the people is against the constitutional rights.” In response to a question, he said, ‘We have sought an appointment with the President. Hopefully she will make an appropriate time to meet.”

The DMK regime is at loggerheads with Ravi over pending bills and his comments on ‘Sanatan Dharma’ and the recent car blast in Coimbatore. DMK mouthpiece ‘Mursoli’ in its editorial on October 31 had hit out at Ravi for commenting on the alleged delay in handing over the blast case to the National Investigation Agency.

Ravi’s remarks on the blast are seen as the immediate reason that prompted the DMK to move on. Tamil Nadu’s ruling party had demanded the recall of Ravi in Parliament months ago. DMK allies, including the CPI(M) and the Congress, had accused the governor of trying to create confusion in the state by echoing the BJP’s stand on policy matters and other issues. According to sources in the ruling party, the DMK and its allies were targeting Ravi for not limiting themselves to the constitutional mandate of his office while demanding his recall from the Centre.

Sources said that the petition to be submitted to the President for recall of Governor Ravi would be based on the constitutional provisions, his order to the office of the Governor and how it does not work within the framework prescribed under the concept of cooperative federalism.
