DNA Exclusive: NDA vs UPA – Analysis of Rising Inflation

New Delhi: Congress, one of India’s oldest parties, which has been sitting in the opposition for the last 8 years, has finally woken up and raised important issues to hold the Narendra Modi-led government accountable. The party on Friday held nationwide protests on key issues like inflation, inflation, unemployment and others. Congress MPs dressed in black to register their protest in Parliament and celebrated ‘Black Friday’. The protest began with a loud press conference by Rahul Gandhi, in which he asked the media whether he was enjoying the beginning of dictatorship in India under the Modi regime. He called for a probe in the ED case and the National Herald case against Congress leaders among other issues “death of democracy”, a statement slammed by several BJP leaders.

UPA vs NDA- Price Growth Analysis

Zee News analyzed the inflation rate from 2004 to 2014 and the inflation rate from 2014 to 2022 to understand the trends and economic growth under the UPA and NDA governments respectively.

Readers will be surprised to know that inflation was far more uncontrolled under the UPA government than the Modi government. In the year 2006, the rate of inflation in India was 5.80 percent, while in 2015 i.e. after 10 years, the rate of inflation was 4.95 percent. Inflation rate in 2007 was 6.37 per cent while in 2017 it was just 3.3%.

Apart from this, the inflation rate in 2008 was 8.35 percent. But in 2018 the inflation rate was 3.94 percent. The rate of inflation in 2009 was 10.88 per cent and in 2019 the rate was only 3.73 per cent. In 2010, inflation broke all records. At that time the inflation rate had reached the level of 11.99 percent. Whereas in 2020, when the country was already battling Kovid, the inflation rate had come down to 6.62 percent.

Petrol Price – NDA Vs UPA

In the UPA government, the prices of petrol and diesel were much higher than the Modi government. In the 10 years of the UPA government, the price of petrol per liter increased by 101 percent. Whereas in eight years this growth has been only 35.25 percent. Similarly, in the 10 years of the UPA government, the price of diesel per liter was increased by 124 per cent. Whereas the current central government has increased the price of diesel by 61.5 percent per liter in the last eight years.
