Domino’s Responds After Viral Pics Showing Hanging on Pizza Dough Spark Outrage

Domino’s came under fire after a photo of a Twitter user showing mops hanging on pizza dough went viral. In a tweet posted in July, user Sahil Karnani claimed that the photos were taken at a Domino’s outlet in Bengaluru. “This is how @dominos_india serves us fresh pizza! Very disgusting,” he wrote. On August 14, he also shared a video clip of the scene.

Domino’s reacted to the outrage after the pictures went viral on the microblogging platform. “We follow stringent world-class protocols to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. We have zero tolerance for violation of these operating standards. The incident brought to our notice will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings. Rest assured we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our customers,” Domino’s wrote in response to a news article on the matter.

Recently it has come to the fore that Domino’s Pizza India Franchisees may stop taking orders on Zomato and Swiggy. This was disclosed by Domino’s holding firm Jubilant Foodworks in a confidential filing with the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

According to a Reuters report, the company in a letter to CCI dated July 19 said, “In case of hike in commission rates, Jubilant will consider shifting more of its businesses from online restaurant platform to in-house ordering system. “

The CCI had sought replies from the Domino’s India franchise and several other restaurants as part of its probe into the alleged anti-competitive practices of Zomato and Swiggy. As part of the response, Domino’s India also said that during July, about 27 percent of its business in India originated from online platforms, including its mobile apps and websites.

The CCI had launched investigations into Zomato and Swiggy in April after the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) alleged preferential treatment, exorbitant commissions and other anti-competitive practices on these apps.
