Donald Trump’s aide Marjorie Taylor Greene removed from US House Freedom Caucus

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a United States Representative known for her close association with former President Donald Trump, has been removed from the Freedom Caucus, an ultra-conservative group within the House of Representatives, Politico reported on July 6.

“A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done,” Politico quoted Republican Representative Andy Harris as saying.

The Republican from Maryland, according to Politico, refrained from disclosing his vote but expressed his support for the decision to oust the congresswoman from Georgia, who is currently serving her second two-year term. The spokesperson for Greene was not accessible for immediate comment, Reuters reported.

In an email statement, a representative from the House Freedom Caucus declined to provide details on membership or internal proceedings.

The official vote occurred shortly after news surfaced of a heated altercation between Greene and her fellow caucus member, Representative Lauren Boebert, on the House floor in June. During the incident, Greene directed a barrage of insults towards Boebert.

Harris expressed his concerns regarding the way a fellow member, likely referring to Greene, made reference to another member. In his statement to Politico, Harris emphasised that such language and treatment of fellow members, particularly towards female colleagues, is not in line with the expected conduct within the group.

He further noted that publicly making derogatory remarks about another member was a significant contributing factor to the decision to remove Greene.

Harris, according to Politico, was asked if Greene’s departure from the group on the debt limit bill or her support for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy played a role in her removal. In response, Harris acknowledged that these factors also had an impact on the decision.

McCarthy faced a revolt from hardline Republicans, who accused him of betraying an agreement that got him elected to lead the Republican-controlled chamber when he reached a deal with Democratic President Joe Biden for compromise debt ceiling legislation.

The hardline Republicans had said McCarthy and his leadership team failed to deliver on promised spending cuts and ignored their input.
