DRDO, Amity University jointly launch Defense Technology course

New Delhi: Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has joined hands with Amity University to launch an exclusive Defense Technology course to enhance the human resource pool in the sector and generate talent for creating startups.

“India needs to develop its ecosystem for defense research and has launched several schemes to fund start-ups. After completion of this program students can form their own R&D startup (as well). The aim is to fight the next war with our weapons,” said HB Srivastava, Director General-Technology Management, DRDO, the premier R&D arm of the Defense Ministry.

The two organizations said the program is being jointly launched to “creating a talent pool … essential in the defense sector”.

India is striving to increase self-reliance in defense technology including missiles, fighter aircraft, drones, naval systems, combat vehicles, radars, sonar, high energy materials and guided power systems etc.

Apart from R&D efforts, manufacturing in the defense sector is getting a boost with the announcement of two separate corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The organizations claimed that the government’s call for self-reliance in the defense sector would require a large number of highly skilled engineers and technologists.

The program will focus on six subjects of specialization – Combat Vehicle Engineering, Aerospace Technology, Communication Systems and Sensors, High Energy Materials Technology, Naval Technology and Directed Energy Technology.

The course will provide an opportunity to the students to conduct projects in DRDO laboratories, Defense PSUs and private industries to create job ready defense technology professionals.

Ashok K Chauhan, Founder Chairman, Amity Education Group, announced “50% Scholarship for All Students” of M.Tech Defense Technology program across all Amity campuses.
