To celebrate his 25th anniversary this year, the Cause Foundation in Bengaluru will stage, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat in the weekends. The classic musical, which came out in 1968, was one of the first shows performed by The Cause Foundation in the year of its founding.

“This is the third time we’re performing Joseph.” says Leila Alvares, founder-director of The Cause (Cooperation of the Arts for the Underprivileged in Society and Environment) Foundation. “For the first time, 25 years ago, we followed the script faithfully and the second time, we interpreted it a bit. However, for our third rendition, we’ve taken a lot of liberties with the way we’ve portrayed it; With all approval, of course.”

“This time around there’s more spoofing to make it more interesting and entertaining, but the music and lyrics remain the same because they can’t be changed,” she says. Rehearsal.

Leela says she feels blessed that her 35-member cast is relatively young. “Over the years, we have had members who have been with us for 10 years or more before leaving the city for higher studies or other jobs. For this show, almost 90% of my cast consists of young people and actors who Performing with us for the first time. Barring a few actors who have been with me from the beginning, it’s almost like starting all over again.”

“One of the objectives of The Cause Foundation is to promote local talent and it is like a breath of fresh air to work with enthusiastic, energetic and on-the-ball people. I am blessed to have an extremely talented group of young musicians ; My entire band has changed with the exception of my bass guitarist who is now my drummer and music director.

The cast includes some of the city’s renowned musical talents such as Rachel Thomas, Alapana Bagirath, Madhuri Braganza, Shayju Varkey, Arvind Kasturi and Prem Koshi. She will be accompanied by Ashish Paul, choreographed by Ritu VK and directed by Alexor Fernandes.
