Driver crushed under VMC vehicle in dumping yard, employees protested

Cheka Rajesh, the driver of an earth-mover vehicle working for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, was crushed under the vehicle at the Ajit Singh Nagar dumping yard on Saturday.

According to the information, Rajesh, married four months ago, was driving an earth mover in the dumping yard on Saturday morning. He stooped down to adjust the position of the digger, which accidentally fell on him, killing him on the spot.

CPI(M) workers and leaders staged a sit-in at the dumping yard demanding justice for the victim’s family.

State leader of CPI(M) Ch. Babu Rao has said that the VMC should take responsibility for Rajesh’s death and demanded a compensation of ₹25 lakh, a job and a house for Rajesh’s family.

Mr. Babu Rao said that the VMC commissioner did not even visit the accident site, and that the VMC was trying to resolve the issue by offering ₹10 lakh compensation.

TDP joined the protest

Leaders of the Telugu Desam Party also joined the protest, and were detained by the police and released later in the evening.

Later in the evening, VMC vehicle depot employees led by CPI(M) corporator Boya Satya Babu staged a protest at the depot demanding justice for Rajesh.

The police have registered the case and taken it under investigation.
