The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has released a new notification that will ease the burden of citizens to avail transport related services. 58 citizen-centric services related to driving licence, conductor licence, vehicle registration, permits, transfer of ownership etc. can now be availed completely online, eliminating the need for people to visit regional transport offices.
MoRTH has extended the 18 citizen-centric services to 58 services by issuing a notification in this regard on 16 September 2022.
58 RTO services can be online based on Aadhaar authentication
The ministry on Saturday said these services can be availed on a voluntary basis with the help of Aadhaar authentication.
Online services for which a citizen is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis include application for learner’s license, issue of duplicate driving license and renewal of driving license which does not require test of ability to drive .
Apart from this, online services include issuance of International Driving Permit, change of address in conductor’s license, application for transfer of ownership of motor vehicle among others, for which a citizen has to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.
What if a person does not have Aadhaar?
As per the notification issued, any person who does not have an Aadhaar number can avail such service in physical form by establishing identity by submitting alternate documents with the concerned authority as per CMVR 1989.
Providing such services in a contactless and faceless manner will go a long way in reducing the compliance burden of citizens along with saving significant time. As a result, the footfall in RTOs is likely to be much lower, leading to greater efficiency in their functioning, the ministry said.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is undertaking several citizen centric reforms to provide greater convenience in availing services related to transport.
