Drugs case: Bikram Singh Majithia’s judicial custody extended till March 22

Earlier in the morning, speaking to reporters before entering the court premises, Majithia said, “As per the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, I have appeared in the (Mohali) court.”

The top court had recently directed the Punjab Police not to arrest the former Punjab minister in a drugs case till February 23 so that he can campaign in the state.

A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices AS Bopanna and Hema Kohli, however, directed Majithia to surrender before the trial court after the February 20 Punjab Assembly elections.

It had also directed the trial court to hear and expeditiously decide Majithia’s regular bail plea after he surrendered in the case.

Majithia’s pre-arrest bail plea, on which a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on December 20 last year, was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 24. An appeal was filed in the apex. Court.

Majithia, who is a SAD MLA and brother-in-law of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, contested on February 20 from Amritsar East constituency, from where Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu is contesting. re-election. The results will be declared on March 10.
