Drugs worth Rs 5 crore hidden in wedding card at airport, old video viral

Although illegal, drug racket is a flourishing business in the world. Despite tight security at airports, railway stations and toll booths, drug mafia find a way to export these harmful and illegal products to foreign countries. However, smuggling is not as easy as it sounds and smugglers are often caught red-handed. A similar incident happened in February 2020 at the Bangalore airport. Customs officials seized over 5 kg of ephedrine, worth around Rs 5 crore, from a woman, which was hidden inside 43 wedding invitation cards.

The old video has once again resurfaced on the internet, attracting the attention of social media users and spreading much-needed awareness about the drug racket. The viral video has been uploaded on Twitter by IPS officer Rupin Sharma, who has urged people to be careful of giving items away randomly in any public place.

It was written in the tweet, ‘The girl with the wedding card was caught at the airport. Drugs were in the cards. Be careful… don’t take anything from anyone at the airport. Regardless of its shape, size or object. Neither old nor young, man/woman/child, anyone!

The eye-opening clip shows a group of customs officials tearing a bunch of wedding cards with scissors. He was forced to tear off the paper covers of the playing cards. After the completion of the tedious work, the officials came to the shocking sight of finding 120-125 grams of ephedrine drug from each of the 43 wedding cards.

The cards appeared to be well packaged and finely wrapped, so much so that it would be impossible for a layman to discern that there were drugs inside. Perhaps the drug dealer felt that he could escape the strict eyes of the police. However, as is evident from the video, the smugglers got lost in their illegal mission.

According to the police department, the export shipment was set up by a drug exporter from Madurai and was allegedly being smuggled into Australia.
