DTC employees asked to travel by bus

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has said that Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) employees will have to travel in buses at least once a week and give their feedback regarding the arrangements and facilities of the bus.

DTC commissioner Ashish Kundra first boarded a state bus to take stock of the problems of the passengers, a move that was appreciated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot.

The commissioner’s bus ride comes just days after the Delhi government ordered all DTC and Transport Department Group A and B personnel to take the bus at least once a week and report on its condition and behavior of the employees.

Kundra took to Twitter to share a picture of himself boarding a government bus. Arvind Kejriwal praised the effort, calling it a “unique sight”.

“We are a people-centric government. Our officers, ministers and MLAs are constantly working among the people. A rare sight to see the Transport Commissioner of a state get a first-hand look at the problems of commuters while traveling by state bus. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kajriwal tweeted.

Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot also appreciated Kundra’s efforts.

“Great to see Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra traveling in the bus in Delhi,” he tweeted.

Arvind Kejriwal flagged off 150 e-buses on 24 May. The Delhi government has announced free travel for all in e-buses from May 24 to 26 to promote clean mobility.

According to an official statement on Friday, more than 89,000 passengers have traveled in Delhi’s electric buses since flagged off by the chief minister.

In a circular earlier this week, the transport department said it operates over 7,000 buses and is also adding low floor electric buses to its fleet of DTC and cluster buses.

The circular also includes a feedback mechanism by which the concerned officers have to fill up a proforma on various parameters on the quality of service.
