Dulquer Salmaan played a negative role in R Balki’s Chup.

Dulquer Salmaan took to Instagram to write a heartfelt note for Chup director R Balki after receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his performance in the film.

Dulquer Salmaan recently won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which also became his first award for a Hindi film. He won the coveted Best Actor in a Negative Role category for playing the role of Danny in the critically acclaimed 2022-released crime thriller Chup: Revenge of the Artist. On Tuesday morning, the actor shared a picture of his appreciation along with a brief note, revealing how he went blank for a brief moment while accepting the award on stage. The note also included a long list of ‘thank yous’ to the film’s director and his crew members, who worked to make Chup a huge success.

He thanked the jury of the award ceremony for appreciating his work, “It felt special! My first award for Hindi. And my first for Best Actor in a Negative Role. Dadasaheb Phalke’s jury for this honor and Many thanks to Abhishek Mishra for being such a host. For some reason my old friend, my nerves got the better of me on stage and I went blank like a first timer,” revealed the actor.

He then thanked the director of Chup for helping him locate Danny and envision his character. To this day, Dulquer Salmaan cannot understand what the filmmaker saw in him that made him cast the role. He added, “So the one person I really have to thank is Balki sir. I don’t know how he saw me as Danny but he did. And the faith he had in me, his guidance and vision.” Was everything for me. Thank you, sir, and thank you to all my amazing co-stars, best crew, and everyone at Hope Productions for giving me the best experience on Chupa. This is for all of you.

Helmed by R Balki, Chup: Revenge of the Artist is heavily inspired from the film Theater of Blood. The film chronicles the life of a serial killer in Mumbai who targets film critics who give unscrupulous reviews of films. An IG officer is assigned to nab the killer and Chup traces their thrilling cat-and-mouse chase. Dulquer Salmaan’s Danny aka Sebastian Gomes is a florist in the film.

Apart from Dulquer Salmaan, actor Rishab Shetty won big at the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards for his exceptional acting skills in Kantara opposite SS Rajamouli for his actioner RRR.
