‘During my tenure, no terrorist could enter within 100 km of Srinagar’: Satya Pal Malik on civilian killings

Condemning the recent killing of civilians, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik said that the terrorists did not dare to enter the 50-100 km border of Srinagar during his tenure. Malik, who is now the governor of Meghalaya, made this statement after 11 people, including minorities and non-local workers, were killed in firing targeting civilians in Jammu and Kashmir this month.

On Sunday, terrorists shot dead two workers from Bihar and injured one after barging into their residence in south Kashmir’s Kulgam.

“During my tenure as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, no terrorist could enter the 50-100 km range of Srinagar. But now terrorists are killing the poor in Srinagar. This is really sad,” ANI quoted Malik as saying during an event in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan on Sunday.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday vowed to avenge every drop of blood of civilians by hunting down terrorists and their sympathizers. Sinha said efforts are being made to hamper the peace and socio-economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir and the personal development of the people, and reiterated the commitment for the rapid development of the Union Territory.

“I extend my heartfelt tributes to the martyred citizens and condolences to the bereaved families. We will hunt down terrorists, their sympathizers and avenge every drop of blood of innocent civilians.”

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with the chiefs of the state police and Central Armed Police Forces in Delhi on Monday to discuss various security issues, including the recent civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir. A ministry spokesperson said Shah presided over the concluding session of the “National Security Strategy Conference” at the Intelligence Bureau (IB) headquarters here and the deliberations were “extensive and detailed”.
