Delhi University’s Hindu College will expand its library, boys’ hostel and add a faculty block to upgrade the existing infrastructure, college officials said on Thursday.

Last year, the college upgraded several of its facilities, including two auditoriums, an amphitheater, a research center and a multimedia lab.

He said most of the projects are being funded by alumni and philanthropic donations of the college.

Principal Anju Srivastava told PTI that the library building is being made four-storeyed with modern facilities. The expansion work is expected to be completed by July 2023.

“Other infrastructure upgradation projects include a library expansion. Till now, the building was two-storeyed but now it is being expanded to four-storeyed with modern facilities like air-conditioning, lift, extensive reading area and online access points,” said Srivastava.

“The library expansion work, facilitated by Hindu College alumnus Rajesh Mehra, founder director, Jaquar Industries, was started on February 5, 2022 and is expected to be completed by July 2023,” Srivastava said.

Earlier it had two floors of 895 square metres. The principal said that two more floors have been added to the existing structure and the finishing work is underway.

Upon its completion, the library will accommodate 350 students, have more than 30 computers, an elevator, comfortable reading areas and a digital resource center to access e-resources available with RFID services.

The Principal said that along with departmental rooms, a two-storey building for teachers and a big staff room are also being constructed.

“The boys’ hostel will soon be extensively expanded to accommodate around 500 additional college students. We will add two storeys and upgrade the rest as part of the expansion project, Srivastava said.

The 25-acre campus houses lecture theatres, classrooms, laboratories, a library, research centres, playgrounds, a sports pavilion, a seminar hall, two auditoriums, computer rooms, a cafeteria and halls of residence.
