DYFI organizes ‘Food Street’ against ‘Halal Food’ campaign by BJP in Kerala

Youth Wing of the Communist Party India (Marxist), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organized ‘Food Street’ against BJP’s ‘Halal Food’ campaign. Food Streets were organized in all district headquarters of Kerala, where people were served food including beef, chicken, pork and biryani as a symbol of progress.

DYFI state president S Satish said, “BJP under the leadership of its state president K Surendran is campaigning against halal food in the state. Many types of wrong information are being spread through this campaign. Food is a personal choice and religion is now being brought into it to divide people. It is against this campaign that DYFI has organized this protest.”

He said that there are a lot of campaigns going on online which give wrong information to the people that ‘Halal’ food means food that has been spit on.

Satish said that it is not just shops run by Muslims, but shops run by Hindus, Christians also have halal board and they do so to get more business.

Satish said, “The aim of the campaign was to make people aware of the reality. It was against the Sangh Parivar politics of including religion in Food Street food.”

The BJP had demanded that the government should ban boards containing halal food in the state.

Surendran alleged that such ‘halal’ boards have suddenly emerged in Kerala and it is not an innocent act and religious fundamentalist groups are behind it.

Surendran had earlier said, “Earlier, we have not seen such boards. There are communal forces behind this, whose motive is to divide people and create conflict. One thing I would like to say very clearly. The sudden arrival of Halal board is not an innocent act. There is a clear agenda to create this Halal culture. Although other parties are unable to see this agenda, but we have been able to see this agenda clearly.

The Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Association had complained to the Chief Minister of Kerala and said that action should be taken against the vicious campaign being done online in the name of Halal food. He has demanded action against those who are doing such social media campaigns and trying to create communal divide.
