ECI observer inspects the arrangements for Presidential election in Andhra Pradesh

Senior IAS officer Chandraker Bharti, who has been appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as an observer for the presidential election in Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday inspected the arrangements made for the same in the Assembly.

Elections are to be held in the assembly premises on Monday (July 18) from 10 am to 5 pm.

Along with Special Officer for Presidential Election Santosh Ajmera, Mr. Bharti had earlier held discussions with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Andhra Pradesh Mukesh Kumar Meena at the Secretariat.

Deputy CEO A Venkateswara Rao, Assistant CEO JV Srinivasa Shastri and Assistant Returning Officers K Raja Kumar and R Vanitha Rani were present on the occasion.

Former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu, who hails from the Santhal tribe in Odisha, is a candidate for the BJP-led NDA. Against him is Yashwant Sinha, the UPA candidate, who was the Union Minister for External Affairs and Finance.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) extended their support to Ms Murmu, saying her nomination to the country’s highest constitutional post was an important step towards the empowerment of tribal communities.
