New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate on Monday said it has seized US dollars worth more than Rs 1 crore from a passenger Kolkata International Airport, passenger Sangeeta Devi was initially intercepted by border tax department Feather Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport On 16 September when they found that she was carrying a large amount of foreign exchange.
The agency said in a statement that the Customs Department informed the ED and its officials recovered 1,300 currency notes of USD 100 denomination from it.
“Sangeeta Devi has failed to provide the source of foreign exchange (USD) found in her possession and the purpose of traveling with such a large amount of foreign currency,” the ED said.
“Without any explanation as to the possession of large foreign exchange amounting to Rs 1.03 crore, the same was forfeited,” it said.
