ED summons West Bengal Law Minister Moloy Ghatak in coal smuggling case

Coal smuggling case: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned West Bengal Law Minister Moloy Ghatak on September 14 in the alleged coal smuggling case, news agency ANI reported on Monday.

Earlier, the central probe agency had also summoned Rujira Banerjee, wife of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. However, she did not appear before the ED. He was asked to appear before the agency in Delhi.

Writing to the ED, Ruzeera said it is not safe for her and her two babies to travel to Delhi amid the COVID pandemic and requested the ED to “ask her to appear at my residence in Kolkata”.

The ED had informed on August 28 that it had summoned TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on September 3 in connection with the coal mining scam.

The ED had also summoned Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Banerjee along with her bank details along with others on September 1.

BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar on Sunday said the law enforcement agency will disclose the amount deposited by Abhishek Banerjee and the source of his income.

Speaking to ANI, Jagannath Sarkar said, “No one knows how Abhishek Banerjee had huge amount of money. But now, ED will reveal the exact amount and how he became rich.”

The government also questioned Banerjee’s financial condition in the last few years, saying, “10 years ago her financial condition was not very good. Now, how does she have crores of rupees? Everything will be clear after investigation.”
