Education ministry plans to reform NTSE scheme with increased scholarship – Times of India

New Delhi: Ministry of Education is reviewing it National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) scheme and the number of scholarships as well as monetary incentives by the Center are likely to be increased from Rs.2000 to Rs.5000. N c E r T informed on Friday that NTSE “Stopped till further orders.”
This popular scholarship program is funded by MoE and organized by NCERT. The scholarship exam is conducted annually in two phases – Phase 1 (State level) and Phase 2 (National level).
A total of 2000 scholarships are awarded in the country with 15% reservation for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes and 27% for Other Backward Classes and 4% for Benchmark Disabled students group.
As per the official notice by NCERT, “The National Talent Search Scheme It is a central sector scheme fully funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (Government of India). NCERT is an implementing agency for the NTS scheme. The plan was approved by 31 March 2021. Further implementation of the scheme in its present form has not been approved and has been put on hold till further orders. This is for the information of all concerned.”
NCERT director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said, “The ministry is reviewing the scheme so that it can be improved.
According to a senior ministry official, the present scheme has been approved till March 31, 2021 and discussions are on to make the scheme more active. “Discussions are underway to reform the NTSE exam which includes increasing number of scholarships to benefit more students.”
The exam is given in Hindi, English and 11 other Indian languages ​​and scholarships are awarded to candidates for courses in science and social sciences up to doctoral level and up to second-degree level in professional courses such as medicine and engineering.
While a scholarship of Rs 1,250 per month is provided to class XI and XII students, Rs 2,000 per month is given to UG and PG students.
“The government is also considering increasing the amount up to Rs 5,000 per month,” the official said, adding that once the new scheme is finalized and approved, it will be notified by the NCERT.
